The Gudmundsson brothers had planned to complete a series of three barn conversions in Kinross, Scotland. After being impressed with the efficiency of an air source heat pump installed into the first property, they approached Source Energy Scotland manager, Andy Smith, to design and install a ground source heat pump system for the second barn conversion.
The alternative fuel for this property was either oil or LPG, making a heat pump an obvious choice for minimising energy bills.
Due to the plot size, Source Energy’s design team had to carefully design the ground loop system to ensure that this was suitable for both the plot footprint and heat demand of the property.
The Gudmundsson brother who owns this property expects to benefit from the domestic Renewable Heat Incentive, which will pay £1,000’s over a 7 year period to help off-set the initial capital costs.
Due to the success of this project, the family plan to install another ground source heat pump into their third barn conversion project.
