As a renewable energy technology, heat pumps are eligible for government grants.
The Renewable Heat Incentive is a scheme launched by the Department of Energy & Climate Change, to encourage the installation of renewable energy technologies such as heat pumps to provide hot water and heating.
Government Spending Review and Autumn Statement November 2016
On Wednesday 25th November the Government announced their future plans in relation to energy efficiency. The government will increase funding for the Renewable Heat Incentive to £1.15 billion by 2020-21, while reforming the scheme to deliver better value for money. With a lot of speculation surrounding the RHI as of late, the announcement provides confidence in future growth in renewable heat technologies.

Phase 1 is the non-domestic RHI tariff: This is open to industrial, commercial, public sector and not-for-profit organisations with eligible installations, and operates with a 20 year tariff. Find out more about the non-domestic RHI »
Phase 2 is the Domestic RHI tariff: This was launched on 9th April 2014. The RHI will pay eligible homeowners £1,000’s over a 7 year period when they choose to heat their home using a renewable energy technology such as a ground or air source heat pump.
