Ground source heat pumps chosen over mains gas boilers to provide efficient warmth

Source Energy designed and installed ground source heat pumps with underfloor heating for these two properties in Cornwall. Our client project managed the build of both properties, and now is living in one of them himself, therefore has benefited from the RHPP and is expecting to be eligible for the RHI.

Although mains gas could have been made available to the site, our clients were looking to be energy efficient so their architect recommended heat pumps. Air source heat pumps were ruled out over concerns of noise. There was no room for trenches, therefore boreholes were drilled for a ground source heat pump.

Source Energy also designed and installed the underfloor heating in the property to maximise efficiency. Screed was used on the ground floor, whilst profoil was used on the first floors. Profoil was chosen as it is a lightweight solution ideal for the timber frame and provides superior insulation. Digital programmable thermostats were used to allow our clients control of their heating and ensure comforting warmth no matter the weather.
