Government Spending Review and Autumn Statement November 2016
On Wednesday 25th November the Government announced their future plans in relation to energy efficiency. The government will increase funding for the Renewable Heat Incentive to £1.15 billion by 2020-21, while reforming the scheme to deliver better value for money. With a lot of speculation surrounding the RHI as of late, the announcement provides confidence in future growth in renewable heat technologies.
Both ground source heat pumps and air source heat pumps are eligible technologies for the domestic RHI. This scheme is open to anyone who can meet the joining requirements, and is available for households both off and on the gas grid.
Source Energy have calculated that homeowners with a typical 3 bedroom new build house could get repaid around £6,500 when they install an air source heat pump or around £15,000 when they install a ground source heat pump (over a 7 year period).

- Air source heat pumps 7.42p/kWh

- Self builders
- Owners of systems installed post 15th July 2009
- Second homeowners (with additional metering)
- Private landlords
- Third party heating system owners
- Social housing providers
